If you love Magnum ice cream, you’re in for a treat. If you’re in the tri-state area you can create your own custom ice cream bar at their pop-up shop. With their selection of 3 ice cream flavors and about 21 toppings, of which you can choose 4, the possibilities are nearly endless.

Don’t wait too long, they’re only here to the end of the summer!

When you’re young, it’s pretty simple, you go with the person who has managed your mom’s mane for the last umpteen years or you have an aunt, cousin or even a family friend who’s able to manage those tresses. As you get older you go with your bff to her stylist or you’re ok with experimenting in the kitchen sink and end up with what you think is awesome neon hair. Then you get older, you transition from relaxed to natural or virgin to dyed hair or even worse you move across the country and you’re like NOW WHAT?

We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Whatever your reason for needing a new stylist here are some discoveries I have found during my most recent quest for finding love in a salon chair.

1. The internet is your friend! With so many social platforms finding images of recent work and hair type comparisons has never been easier (as we know all hair is not the same and while your friends hair may look great when she leaves the chair your hair might not work out the same).

2. Ask a friend. This a tried and true method, and even if their stylist isn’t the one for you they may be able to refer you to someone else who is your perfect match. It’s the surest way to get the inside scoop from a source that you trust.

3. Research and read reviews. Find out what people are saying about any potential new stylist or salon. With sites like Yelp, its never been easier to find out what customers think.

With all that said I have definitely been able to find some wonderful places that do a pretty great job and while I haven’t yet found my stylist soulmate I am optimistic on my quest. Please feel free to share your experiences or anything that has helped on your quest!

Happy hunting!

Wash Day – the day every curly girl dreads, but can’t live without. During your last wash day, how long did it take to comb through those gnarly tangles? How much breakage did you experience? As a curly girl with “reasonable” hair growth goals, anything more than the few usual shed hairs, is too much!

Well, Deva Curl has just released a product that claims to address our hair detangling woes. The Wash Day Wonder is a pre-cleanse detangler that provides slip, adds shine and reduces breakage. It is made with Pracaxi oil, saffron flower and natural sugar-based technology which strengthens hair to resist breakage. It’s light and creamy texture glides through your hair once saturated in water and revives your curls for a faster wash day experience.

Two weeks ago I sat in front the TV mentally preparing myself for the task at hand.I’d had a busy week so I was on 10th day hair. Before wetting my hair, I parted my hair in 6 sections and began smoothing the Wash Day Wonder through my tresses. The instructions state to apply to soaking wet hair but I needed to see if I could use this in place of my DIY pre-poo (post here). Upon application, I instantly felt my curls softening and becoming more manageable. I quickly twisted up each section then began running the water through my hair. Within minutes I was able to thoroughly cleanse, condition and detangle my hair. Last week I used it the suggested way and had equally amazing results. Deva Curl is on to something!

Verdict: I love how easy this product is to use. Priced at $28 for 12oz, it can be a bit steep if you have as much hair as I do but if you’re looking for a reliable product that works quickly and conditions at the same time, it’s totally worth it.

I received this product complimentary for review.

Bite Beauty has added The Lip Pencil to their collection and they did not disappoint!

The Lip Pencil Claims:
With high precision texture that defines the lip line, The Lip Pencil provides perfect, allover, opaque lip coverage. Bite Beauty’s lightest formula yet, it offers addictively creamy coverage that’s so lightweight it feels like nothing on your lips. The case is an artisanal wood barrel that encapsulates whipped shea butter and three times the amount of pigments for a perfectly defined line.

Amuse Bouche Claims:
Swipe on bold, creamy lip color with Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche. Created and crafted by hand, Bite’s small batch, low-heat process preserves a balanced blend of lip-quenching nutrients, vitamins, and omega oils that are essential for achieving healthy-looking lips. Made with 12 edible oils and triple milled pigments, this lipstick provides saturated lip color with weightless coverage and a citrus flavor made from fresh pressed fruit.

I received two full-size Bite Beauty lip pencils and two sample lipsticks to test and review. The colors received were: 020 Beige Nude, 044 Rich Mahogany, Whiskey & Honeycomb.

Overall I’m very pleased with these products and excited to continue using them. The lip liner is highly pigmented and offers long wearing benefits. It’s consistency allows for easy application and does not stain the lips when removing, The Amuse Bouche lipsticks are equally amazing, coming in matching shades to use with the liner. The lipstick delivers extreme moisture and it’s soft texture allows for smooth application and easy long wear. You can easily get about 6 hours of wear before needing to touch up.

I was not financially compensated for this post and received two lip pencils from Influenster and Bite Beauty for review purposes only. As always the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

As we all know, raw honey is most commonly used as a natural sweetener in foods and for it’s health benefits. It naturally boosts energy, stops insomnia, regulates blood sugar, aides in weight loss and improves digestion.

Along with these many health benefits, it also works wonders for the hair and skin and can be found in many cosmetic products today. It’s antioxidant, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and humectant properties can improve the skin and hair in many ways. Here’s 10!

Treats Dry or Damaged Hair

Increased exposure to sun, cold weather, and dry climates can lead to dull hair. An easy way to restore moisture to your hair is with a honey mask or steaming with honey. After a few minutes, your hair will be noticeably softer, and shinier.

Hair Conditioner
Honey acts as an effective moisture retainer in deep conditioners and leave-in products. Applying honey to wet hair will supply moisture to rough hair, and smooth open cuticles, adding natural shine and volume to dry, dull hair.

Healthy Scalp/Prevents hair loss
A benefit we can all appreciate is its ability to help against hair loss. Honey contains moisturizers that prevent hair shedding by inhibiting the reduction of hair root moisture. Its antioxidant, germicidal and fungicidal properties aide in the reduction of hair loss and stimulates hair growth. Honey’s antiseptic and antibacterial properties also cleanse the hair follicles by getting rid of impurities. This minimizes the clogging at the root which can lead to hair loss, allowing the scalp to breathe and hair to grow.

Shampoo Booster
The humectant properties of honey help to regulate and retain moisture in hair. Using honey as a cleanser or simply adding some to your shampoo results in soft, clean, easy to detangle hair. It also strengthens hair follicles for healthy growth and less breakage. Honey can even alleviate your itchy scalp and help beat dandruff.

Natural Skin Moisturizer
Honey is a natural humectant and has the capacity to draw moisture from the air, making it the perfect natural ingredient for dry skin. Massaging honey directly on wet skin helps in hydrating and rejuvenating damaged skin cells. It helps to soften dry, flaky and chapped skin while giving a natural glow.

Pore Cleanser
The natural enzymes in raw honey are known to clarify the skin and keep pores clear. Its antibacterial properties also prevent bacterial buildup that can lead to skin imbalances and breakouts.

Honey contains small amounts of gluconic acid and other alpha-hydroxy acids, which gently remove dead skin cells and brighten the complexion. It can also be used with brown sugar or lemon for a deeper exfoliation.

Treats Acne
Honey is great for most skin types including sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, prematurely aged skin, dry skin, oily skin, mature skin as well as eczema and rosacea-prone skin.  The powerful antibacterial property of honey makes it an effective natural remedy for treating acne and pimples. This prevents acne and pimple causing bacteria from forming and the hydrogen peroxide present in honey acts as a disinfectant. Meaning, it not only heals acne and pimple but also prevents further breakouts!

Fades scars
Along with many natural oils, raw honey increases healing and tissue regeneration, helping to revive skin cells and diminish the appearance of scars.

Honey protects your skin from cell damage due to free radicals, which speed up the aging process and may contribute to wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s-feet and even sagging skin. Applying honey in your under eye area overnight will also effectively lighten dark circles.

Pre-poo is a treatment you apply to your hair prior to adding shampoo or conditioner. It is the pre-shampoo step, therefore appropriately named: prepoo. While not required, it can be a natural hair maven’s best friend in the cooler months. And most importantly, it makes the overall wash day process easier. Here are some easy DIY recipes you try at home.

  1. Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Extra Virgin Olive Oil is easily the most common pre-poo but not without reason. It is a natural conditioner that locks in moisture, prevents dryness of the scalp, and can make your hair soft, smooth and shiny.
    What you need:
    – a bowl
    – 1/4 cup of EVOO (heat in bottle before pouring in bowl if you’d like)
  1. Avocado Mask:Generally I’d prefer to eat avocados, but this mask is wonderful for your hair. Avocado oil helps rejuvenate and moisturize the scalp. It is a rich source of proteins, amino acids and vitamins, helps soothe the scalp and promotes long, strong, healthy hair growth.
    What you need:
    – 1 small ripe avocado
    – Oil of your choice (EVOO, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil or Jojoba oil)

Use right away after mixing ingredient together. You can also warm up for easier application.

  1. Coconut Milk Mask:Coconut oil is rich in vitamins C, E, B as well as calcium, iron, and magnesium. All these Vitamins and minerals boost the hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. This is particularly beneficial for restoring dry, damaged, weakened and brittle hair as well as split ends. Coconut milk is also a great organic hair conditioner that provides you with longer and thicker hair.
    What you need:
    – 1/3 cup fresh coconut milk
    – 3 tablespoons raw honey
    – 2 tablespoons castor oil
  1. Ayurvedic Oil Blend:Amla oil has the ability to improve the strength of the hair, prevent hair loss, eliminate dandruff and encourage growth and is best paired with coconut oil
    What you need:
    – 1/3 cup virgin coconut oil (heated/melted)
    – 2 table spoons Amla oil
  1. Drugstore conditioners:If you have any natural hair approved drugstore conditioners laying around you can add any oil of your choice, mix together and apply as a prepoo.
    What you need:
    – 1/2 cup of conditioner
    – 1/4 cup of oil(s)
